the only family I've found so far with a Michael and a Patrick with surname anything like McCarthy is this one
1861 Dwyrheo? (the ink is smudged), Ystradyfodwg RG9/4063 folio 49 pg 17
John Carty lodger widower 34 b. Ireland
Patrick son 10
Michel son 8
Mary dau 6
all children born N.K. Wales - no occupation given for John or for most other people in that house. Not very useful, but a possible. Still can't see them on 1871.

Hi

Thanks for all the information.  It seems that it's the correct Harrison family but as for the McCarthys I've drawn a blank.

The marriage between Michael McCarthy and Anne Harrison is correct but anything before that on Michael is still a mystery.

I'd love to know who is father was and where he (Michael's father)came from originally.

If anybody has any ideas once again I'd be more than grateful.

Thanks

Moore - Dorest/Crynant
Griffiths - Cilybebyll
Michael - Rhondda
Mcarty - Ireland/Aberavon/Rheola/Crynant

do you have a copy of the marriage certificate? If not, it would be worth ordering it from the GRO to get Michael's father's name and occupation so you'd have clues who to search for.

A Harmett Harrison was reeve in 1780 and the teannts for the Manor of Resolven met at his house - Ynysybiben Inn - :) 27th October 1780.  With such an unusual name he must be an ancestor of the person named.

Brilliant thanks very much

Where did you get the information from?

I noticed that you're looking for Davies from Crynant.  I'm from Crynant if you want to know anything.

Thanks again

If you go to the Swansea Council website or put Neath Antiquarian Society on Google there are a lot of records kept at the Mechanics Institute Neath belonging to NAS.  They have been indexed and the index is on the web.  You can visit the Mechanics Institute Tuesday and Thursday to see the records.

My Davies' from Crynant were originally at Godrerhos farm which is where the "Kingfisher" pub now stands.
