sorry everyone, i was asleep when your replies came through...  :-[

it is ross & cromarty, but on the eastern side. - also, i have come to the conclusion that although they married there, it was probably only the name of the farm which is why i can't find it anywhere. i am reasonably local to the area myself (less than 20 miles or so) but even i didnt recognise it which is why i originally asked.

anyway to cut out the suspense any further, it should have been in the Kilmuir- Easter area (for those of you who don't know; between rosskeen and Logie-Easter...)

here is a larger attachment for you.

thanks for your help,
Lorna.

Hi Lorna

The Groom was Tain and the T looks the same, so I'll have another look around the Tain area first. I'll check out her birth to see if that has any clues.

she was born in Logie Easter....

her father Hugh Mcleod's occupation varies between general labourer and church officer depending on what cert/census you look at.

kind regards,
Lorna.

I've checked the parish that they were married in. It was Kilmiur Easter - - an area about 5 mls NE of Invergordon. Added - It includes Delny and Kildary. The parish is next to the parish of Fearn. If you notice there is a setlement called Fearn and Hill of Fearn just to the SE of Tain.

I noticed that the first letter, although at first glance looked like a T, on closer inspection it is written with the tail below the line on both instances of it. I think it is a house name in Fearn.

Hi

My eyes are going squiffy looking at multimap. It might be worth going here:

the shrunk url link

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0m5/

and doing a trawl around.

It might be worth your while trying the Statistical Accounts for Kilmuir Easter:

http://stat-acc-scot.edina.ac.uk/sas/sas.asp?action=public&

or  having a look at Electric Scotland:

http://www.electricscotland.com/

The Genuki pages for R & C are not very helpful.

If there was a church, it must have been a settlement of some kind.
