Trainor/Traynor
« on: Wednesday 28 June 06 01:09 BST (UK) »
Would like info on my paternal gmother's family.  Her name was Bridget Annie TRAINOR (Derryleckagh, Newry) m John McLOUGHLIN (Greenan, Newry) in 1882, and died March, 1933.

I have her on the 1901 and 1911 Census - but know nothing more.

Looking for help in this puzzle.
Would appreciate any, and all help.
Thanks -
mvm

I'm not sure how I can help but I have Trainors mixed in with my McAleavey [various spellings] family from near Forkhill Newry - I see that McAleavey is written at the bottom of your email - do you have any information on this side of your tree.  It is not a common name and may help to connect to the Trainors.

Fiona it was great hearing from you.  I will attempt to explain each of the names - McAleavey and Trainor.

My maternal g gf was Patrick McClory from Ballyvally and he married Bridget McAleavey (b1817--6 May 1895).  At this point I have no info where she came from, but she is buried in Rostrevor in the family grave belonging to my gf Felix McClorey (note spelling).  Where her husband is buried, I do not know.

I do have a copy of a John McAleavey at age 19 sailing on the Cedric from Liverpool and arriving at Ellis Island on 27 June 1913.  His passage was paid by his father, Hugh McAleavey, & he was going to Pocalletto, Idaho.  It stated his residence was Drumreagh, Co Down.

My paternal gm was Bridget Annie Trainor from Derryleckagh (d Mar 1933) and she married my gf
John McLoughlin from Greenan (Grinan, Newry) and raised 9 children.  Anne Trainor (Traynor) had 2 brothers Patrick and John.  That is the extent of my knowledge.

I have a cousin who lives in Mayobridge from my Dad's side, but her knowledge is limited.

Is any of the above useful to you....or can you help me out in my quest for knowledge.

I live in Michigan - within a suburb of Detroit.  Where do you live?
Keep in touch -
Margaret

Jim thank you so much for the info.
How do I contact this Dr. Brian Trainor at UHF?
Is there a website that he has?  How do you know so much?  How do you obtain your information?

Thank you again for your help.

Margaret, the UHF is the Ulster Historical Foundation ie www.ancestryireland.co.uk/  Send Brian Trainor a letter or email, the address is on the website.  Surely he would not charge one of the clan just for advice!
I dont know as much as you think, but I know the internet and am irish. I am hoping to become a paid family historian later this year, Good luck, Jim

Fiona - glad you are back.  I wish that they had more last names to pick from back then.  These families seem to be intertwined with brother and sister from one family marrying brother and sister of another family.

See what you can dig up.  Will be extremely grateful.
Thanks -
Margaret

Oh and I also have a note of the birth of two John McAleaveys in the third quarter of 1893 - one in Kilkeel and another in Newry - one of them would probably match the John you have in the Ellis Island records.  I don't have the details of these yet but I'll have another dig!  Do you think this John was related then?
