Look up - Grindlow Taylor - Stubley/Dronfield/Derbyshire
« on: Wednesday 28 June 06 08:07 BST (UK) »
Could someone please do a lookup for two families by the name of Grindlow Taylor, I think they came from Stubley or Dronfield or somewhere else in that area of Derbyshire:

William married Lucy (nee Straw)
children Mary, Nellie, Ada, Polly, Beatrice (Ethel), Hilda and Harold

Jonathan married Amelia Elizabeth
children Annie, Amy, Violet and Jonathan

I am guessing that William and Jonathan might be related poss brothers but I can't seem to find any connection so far and also any other information such as their parents names.   They not have come from these areas originally but settled there as I know that the children of William were born on Dronfield.

Also, I am trying to make a connection obviously through a marriage of a Grindlow and Taylor and not able to find anything either.

I would appreciate it if any one can help me in finding these familes and hopefully making a connection.

Regards.

Elaine

Hi Elaine,

What kind of look-up are you hoping for? Any idea of a time frame?

The (incomplete) free index has a few entries for these names, for instance
Marriage Jonathan Grindlow Taylor to possibly Amelia Turner in 1890.

Are these the right people?

Here's one family in 1901:
RG13/3261 20 31
Dronfield, Derbyshire
1 Gosforth Lane
4 rooms occupied

Jonathan G Taylor, head, 39, Coal miner hewer, b. Dronfield
Amelia E, wife, 35, b. do.
Alice Townhill, boarder, 10, b. Cowley Bar (?)
Annie Taylor, dau, 1, b. Dronfield

Looking at BMDs, the name apparently wasn't double-barrelled before the 1900s.
(and they used both Grindlow and Taylor)

Looking closer at it, I'd better type the order in which they are listed out for you. The children seem to belong to William and Mary rather than to Charles.
Charles Grindlow, widr, 65, Farm labourer
William, brother, mar, 52, Coal miner
Mary, sister in law, 50
William, son, 21, Coal miner
Jonathan, son, 18, Coal miner
Mary A, dau, 15
Charles*, son, 13

*I see Charles was registered as Charles Grindlow TAYLOR December quarter 1867 Chesterfield 7b 553

1871
RG10/3624 6 5
Dronfield, Derbyshire
Stubley Hollow?

Charles Grindlow, head, mar, 55, Farm labourer, b. Derby Coal Aston
William, nephew, unm, 42, Coal miner, b. Dronfield
Mary Taylor, serv, mar, 40, Housekeeper, b. do.
William Grindlow, nephew, 11, b. do.
Johnathan Grindlow, nephew, 9, scholar, b. do.
Mary Ann Grindlow, niece, 5, scholar, b. do.
Charles Grindlow, nephew, 3, b. do.

I'll have a look at 1861. Looks like they were the (perhaps illegitimate) children of William Grindlow and Mary Taylor. We'd need to find their births.

Let me know if you want William (born ca. 1859) in 1891 (RG12/2772 51 9 ) and 1901 (RG13/3261 15 21)
