1841 & After/Shaftesbury/Robert HOPKINS
« on: Wednesday 28 June 06 20:07 BST (UK) »
Hi!

Would somebody kindly search the 1841 census (or any others thereafter) for my Great (x4) Grandfather:

Robert HOPKINS, a Labourer & Fishmonger, born about 1800 in Shaftesbury or Motcombe. His wife was named Mary, and they had at least 3 children all born in either Shaftesbury or Motcombe: John b. 1830, Mary Ann b. 1833 & Sarah Jane b. 1837.

Thanks!

Ryan.

Hi Ryan,

I found this is the 1841 census for Shaftsbury.  The names all seem to tie up but Robert's birth date is a bit out, even considering the rounding down of ages in 1841:

Bell Street, Holy Trinity, Shaftsbury
Ref: HO107/295/1 f15 p24

Robert HOPKINS, 35, Lab, Y
Mary ditto, 45, Y
John ditto, 10, Y
Mary ditto, 7, Y
Sarah ditto, 4, Y

Y = Born in county

Regards,

Al

Hi agian,

From the 1861 & 1871 censuses it looks like he married his neighbour's daughter Mary Ann HELLIER and went on to have 2 more children; Joseph (b. abt. 1853) & Catherine (b. abt. 1856).

Will post the details later.
