James Pearse father of Patrick Pearse
« on: Friday 30 June 06 06:23 BST (UK) »
James Pearse, a skilled stonecarver born in Devonshire, and his wife Margaret Brady (originally from Co. Meath) were the parents of Padraig Pearse who was born in Ireland on 10th November 1879. Patrick was executed by firing squad in Kilmainham Gaol on 3rd May 1916 for his role in the Easter Rising.  James worked building churches in Dublin where he met and married Margaret Brady. Patrick was the second of their four children. I am looking for a connection between James and Elias Pearse of Co. Tipperary. There were a large number of families named Pearse from Holne near Dartmoor.

Hi Chris

It seems this is part of someone else's enquiry?

The more information the better.  There are too many James PEARSE (& variant spelling) to be sure we have the right one in censuses, given that he might have emigrated (for want of a better word!) as a young man. Well over 100 in 1861 of various ages.

Does anyone have any idea of his birthdate?  Can his marriage be traced?  I am unfamiliar with Irish records, but presumably the record would include father's names?

You note a connection with Holne, but is that just due to the proliferation of the name in that area, or is there a more substantial connection?  There are no James PEARSE or variant spelling born or living in Holne showing in the 1861 or 1871 census.

Happy to look out for him, if more clues can be provided.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
