Hi Little Nell,

Thank you for your message that certainly sounds interesting, I will have to get the marriage cert soon and see what her fathers name was and hopefully it will be the same as Amelia's father (or would that be far to easy a conclusion to this little thread!!!)

Hi

I look up load of things for Rootschatters at Nottm archives. If people are not in Nottm then thats OK by me if they have tried every other route. Be they in Oz, NZ or Norfolk.

Tell me exactly what you want me to look up. I will print it off and eventually look it up. I work full time but cleared a huge backlog the other week so it should not take too long. If you know thw parish, the date within 10 years and the name and B, M, or D that is fairly easy. It gets harder the further back we go as in the 1700s the information is scarce and the writing is often awful.

A specific look up is by far the easiest.

Thank you Jane

I'm looking for Millicent/Amelia Fenton's birth record at the moment.  She was born in 1823/4 in Clarborough.  If the Amelia I have found is Millicent then her parents names  were John and Mary Fenton born around 1801 in Nottinghamshire (mothers maiden name unknown)

I've just had a thought, I know this is a bit cheeky but I have another strand of the family from Nottinghamshire and I cannot find parents for one of my ancestors.  I'm looking for the parents of Sarah Weightman, she was born in 1828/29/30 in Newark, I know Sarah married Robert Laycock who was also born in Newark in 1822 (I have his parents as Richard and Elizabeth Laycock-although I do not know his mothers maiden name) I also know that Sarah had a brother Henry Weightman who was born in the late 1820s- I think.

I hope this enough information and thank you for your offer to look it up for me it will be very useful and would help me on my way immensely.

Hi Sarah, I can help a little with the Weightmans ...source Notts FHS indexes to baptisms and marriages

Baptisms at Newark St Mary to William and Mary Weightman/Wheatman
Sarah 19/10/1813
George 20/20/1815
Elizabeth 20/12/1817
Thomas 05/12/1818
James 11/07/1823 (Wheatman)
Samuel 05/09/1826
Sarah 19/09/1828
Henry 30/05/1831 (Wheatman)

In the first baptism, mother's surname is given as Donson, perhaps indicating they weren't married. Father's profession for all baptisms is variously joiner/carpenter/millwright/wheelwright.

The nearest likely marriage I can see is also at Newark 15/05/1814 between William Weightman and Mary Dawson

You're welcome :) Sorry for cluttering your Fenton thread, but the family are there in 1841 (on Millgate, which still exists by the side of the river and is the logical place for a millwright to be!)

Millgate  ???  I've heard that name before...............

I've just checked my BMD certificates and Robert and Sarah's daughter Mary (my gt gt grandma) was born in Millgate in 1854 so Sarah didn't move very far when she married.

That's interesting that Millgate still exists I'll have to google it and see if there are any photos.

Thanks again,

Sarah
