Hi

There are two John TOMKINSON's born around 1829ish both residing Walker, Longbenton.

Parents of John Jones are Richard and Ann.

Parents of John Jas are John and Elizabeth.

Both fathers are refiners of Iron and both families originate in Staffordshire.

I can't find any others anywhere near what you're after - are you certain they would be in Northumberland?

Do you have your family on later Census?  Sometimes it helps when searching for previous Census entries.

Hi Helen,
Thanks for that. I have a 1851 Census in the parish of Longbenton District Walker. His father is 22 and his mother 20.His dad is a refiner of iron (occupation)if that is any help to you.I am afraid I don't know much else, except he is born in 1829 and as we have it , it says Newcastle Upon Tyne.
We have nothing at all on his parents.

Hi

You've lost me now!  You asked for the 1841 Census entry for John Tomkinson born 1829 with parents John and Mary - no entry found, but an entry was found with parents John and Elizabeth.

You say you have the 1851 Census - his father is 22 and his mother 20 and John was born in 1829?!! Doesn't add up.

The 1851 Census has John TOMKINSON 22, Mary TOMKINSON 20 and son John TOMKINSON 6months.

I think you want the father John born 1829 found in 1841.

1841 Census
HO107/822/4  Folio 27  Page 4
Engine Street, Walker

John TOMKINSON 39 Refiner of Iron No (not born in County)
Elizabeth TOMKINSON 36 No
John Jas TOMKINSON 12 Refiner of Iron Ap No
William TOMKINSON 7 No
Sarah Ann TOMKINSON 5 Yes (born in County)
Elizabeth TOMKINSON 2 Yes
Sophia TOMKINSON 3m Yes
Maria TOMKINSON 3m Yes

This couple and family are living next to John, Mary and baby John in 1851.

Just a few doors away in 1841- may be a relative.

HO107/822/4  Folios 29&30  Pages 9&10
Chapple Street, Walker
Richard TOMKINSON 35 Refiner of Iron No
Ann TOMKINSON 34 No
John Jones TOMKINSON 12 Labourer Iron Works No

In 1851 this family are living a few doors away from the other two TOMKINSON families - so John Jones can't be yours as he's still living with his parents in 1851.

All three families came from Staffordshire.  John born 1829 and his father John were both born in Staffordshire according to the 1851 Census entries.  Only baby John born 1850 is recorded as being born in Northumberland, Walker.

Hope this helps.

Hi Helen
Thank you, my apologies.Yes I am looking for John born 1829, now you have been able to tell me that he is born in Staffordshire, whereas we have it as Newcastle Upon Tyne.No wonder I am getting confused too.
Please bear with me now, now the parents of the John born in 1829 are John & Elizabeth with 6 children listed in the 1841 Census, am I correct now?
I am sorry, it is just that I have so many John Tomkinsons  am having trouble keeping up. However I certainly thank you and appreciate what you have been doing for me.

Hi Juliefran

Yes, if you are certain the John TOMKINSON aged 22 years in the 1851 Census entry is yours - then the 1841 Census entry with parents John and Elizabeth is also yours.

John and Elizabeth (the parents) are living next to John, Mary and baby John in 1851.  If you want the details just let me know.
