No problem, Dick.

This is the best I can do, I'm afraid.  Sorry I can't read all of it, or decypher some entries.  I didn't do the excel thing in the end, but used bullet points for columns A, B & C.  I didn't do any of the other columns as I thought they made enough sense.  I hope you can make sense of what I have written:

·   Deemed to have been enlisted 6/8/42

·   Part II, No 10.  6/8/42 – 11 PTC (Primary Training Centre).  Posted

·   Part II No 26.  18/9/42 – Transferred to Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) Posted 56 Transport Regt (TR). Auth WOUM 112/Misc/3562 (AG Bintakes) of 5/9/42

·   T/40/7. 56 Transport Regt (TR).  Granted WT.?P. (??War Time ? Pay) inf. 6/2/43  At Catterick as a Trooper

·   WOUM AG17/R/3097 dated 24/2/43.  56 Transport Regt (TR).  Posted to 43rd Royal Tank Regt (R Tanks)

·   76/5/43.  43 Royal Tank Regt (RTR) Granted cook helpers pay 3’ per ? 3 Jul – 27 Aug.

·   81/6/43.  43 Royal Tank Regiment (RTR)  Granted cook helpers pay 28 Aug – 24 Sep 43

·   Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) Records Auth A19389 dated 8 Oct 3.  Transferred to Infantry of Line and posted to 7 Infantry Training Centre (ITC) Lincoln. S.O.S. (don’t know) accordingly.

·   4/129.  7 Infantry Training Centre (ITC). Transferred to York &Lancs Regiment.  Posted to 7 ITC.

·   4/2.  Permanently attached to 1 Foresters (? Worcs & Sherwood Foresters).

·   76x44. Embarked with serial RXBBL (26/3/44)

·   Disembarked India (27/4/44)

·   Posted BBRC TOS 1 Coy 20 wing (sorry, don’t know)

·   2A/14.  HMT SS Otranto (His Majesty’s Troopship SS Otranto).  Awarded 168 hrs duty/ 1. Insubordination to NCO. 2. Using ? language to NCO

·   78/44. 2 Green Howards (GH).  Transfer to 21 Green Howards.

·   96/44. Assign 69 1 Green Howards. 10 Army Base Post Office (ABPO)

·   110/44.  Discharged 69 1 Green Howards

·   115/44.  Assign 96 1 Green Howards

·   No 1/44. Discharged 96 1 GH

·   27/44(11A?).  Assign HO. ICD (BT) Puri (India)

·   27/44(11A?).  Transfer to military wing General Hospital (Cuttah)

·   27/44(11A?).  Transferred to 39 1 Green Howards.  12 ABPO.

I'm not saying that I'm right, but that's what I read the entries as.
I hope it helps you a little.  Also, as the last entry is dated 4 Nov 1944, is there more information on your father?  Parhaps he went to the military police after that date?

I have found a couple of photos of HMT SS Otranto, if you would like me to post them.

Kind regards,
Thudders

Hi Dick,

Just want add a few explanations of your father's service record of which Thudders deciphered most of the entries.
S.O.S. stands for Struck off Strength (i.e. posted from one unit/camp to another).
Posted BBRC TOS 1Coy 20 wing 3d per diem.
Awarded 168 hrs detention 1/ Insubordination to NCO. 2/ Using (obscene ?) language to NCO.  In other words, he was a bad boy  ;D

Isles.

You're welcome Dick.

Post the next one, and I'll work through that one (although I have to pop out for a short time at the moment).

Here's the SS Otranto to be going on with.  Right click on the photos and select 'save image as'.  You can then save them somewhere on your computer is you wish.

Hi Dick,
same as before, here's my interpretation of the first three columns:

·   155/46.  21 Bn (Battalion).  Ordered to revert to W.S. (?War Service) rank Private by OC 21 Battalion RAOC (Royal Army Ordnance Corps) for using obscene language to his superior officers.

·   170/46.  21 Battalion.  Unfortunately the text is too faint to read.

·   1/46.  19 Company.  Again, too faint to read.

·   9/46.  19 Coy.  Discharged with effect from (wef) 30/11/46 under paragraph 390 (XV111) (a) K.R. (Kings Regulations).  Services no longer required or re-enlistment for short service commission.

·   Total service 4 years 116 days.

·   Pension service 4 years 116 days.

·   Discharged under Kings Regulations 1940 para 390 (xviii) (a) his services being no longer required having enlisted into the RAOC on a short service engagement.  Discharged 29/11/46.
