1851/1861 Lookups Please - Ford

Hello -

I have found a possible birth record for my g g grandfather:

John Samuel Pothern Ford
Born QJun 1848
East Stonehouse, Devon

I was hoping someone could find a record for him and his family in the 1851 census when he was 3 years old.  Also, since I believe he emigrated to the US in 1855 (probably without his entire family), I would be curious to see if his family is listed in the 1861 census without him.

Sorry, that may well be wrong.

I can only see one John Ford c1848 in East Stonehouse on the 1851 census.  None showing up with initials.

This family appears in 1861 - the names match but John's age is way out and the head is not a Seaman - so can't be sure that it's the same family as 1851.
Not much help to you I'm afraid......

Hi Darcy -

Thanks for the info - I agree with you that the ages don't look right.

I got the birth record from FreeBMD:

Ford     John Samuel _o_rn     E Stonehouse     vol 9     pg 542

Looking closer, there's a note saying "The page number is not within the range expected for the district."  Most of the entries on that page are from Totnes.

Is it possible he's actually from Totnes or another part of Devon?

Hi, I have just looked up that last posting you put on and that middle name is Pothern, the page Number is not clear it could be 342.

there are quite a few possibilities for a John Ford born Devon c1848. As I mentioned before I can't see any entries using the initials S P.

You would need to get the birth certificate to find John's father's name and occupation to have a better chance of finding him.
