Alderney Census Look Up please

I couldn't find a marriage for Isaac Smale on the AVRI, but I found an Isaac Small married in Victoria 1878 to Margaret Ann Miller. Is this your man? Do you have the marriage certificate?

There is a baptism in NSW of Isaac T Small - father William Mother Sarah - 1854. Any likelihood of this being your man?

Trish - yes you are quite correct - from their daughters birth certifictate we have the following information

father Isaac Smale b Alderney age 26 in July 1884 making his year of birth around 1858
mother Margaret Annie Smale (nee Miller) born Portland Victoria age the same as Isaacs
Marriage showing on this certificate as April 18th 1878 in Belfast Victoria

Not sure about the NSW birth in 1854

We don't have the marriage certificate yet, we have so far been concentrating on getting NZ certificates with his marriage certificate will hopefully clarify his place of birth.

Selina is visiting her sister Georgina on the 1881 census.

This leaves the possibility of Emily/Henry being Isaac though his/her birth is given consistently as Devonport on both censuses. I can't see a birth registration for a Henry/Isaac Small/Smale between 1856-1858 in Stoke Damerel registration district. I didn't check for an Emily.

However you really do need Isaacs marriage certificate for his parents information. There were other Smalls living on Alderney at the time of the censuses.

You can get the Victorian certificate online
http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/servlet/bdm_home
Cost about $17.50 I think. If you ask on the Oz immigrants board someone will look up the number for you. I'm a little wary of the AVRI - prefer to check on the Vic CDs (and I don't have the early one).

I do not know whether a Vic certificate of that time would list parents - I have a Qld one from 1867 which lists parents, a NSW one from 1873 which does not.
