Hi all, there seems to be a lot of connections on this thread so am wondering if any of us have DNA tested? I have.  ;D
Anyone know of a GIBSON DNA thread?
Cheers Debbie

Hello All,

I'd like to chip in here because Robert Gibson (born Tweedmouth c.1836) was my great grandfather.  His son Daniel (1867-1936) was my maternal grandfather and I was born in Kirkcaldy.  Please let me know if you would like to swap info.

Jack
My Name is Diane Wilson
A bit late to the party! I'm related to Robert Gibson and Ann Renwick.
Their children, Daniel Gibson born 1867, his sister Jane Gibson born 1869 and his brother John Gibson born 1880.

There was a census in 1901 where uncle John Gibson (20 yrs) and his nephew Ralph Gibson (9 yrs) were visiting Auntie Jane and her husband in Leith (Duke Street, Edinburgh)

Daniel is my great grandfather, he had a son Ralph Gibson, my grandfather born 1891.
Ralph Gibson married my grandmother Christina McKenzie Torrie in 1924.
They had one daughter Williamina Torrie Gibson, born 1930,died 2007 that's my mother, My mum married George Wilson born 1931, died 2023, my dad.

Hi all

What can I add to this thread? I come down from Robert Gibson and Rose Ann Mullen (x3 Gt Grandparents). I see there is a lot of info on this thread already so I’ll try not to repeat (there might be some!).

To start with, Rose Ann was the daughter of Edward Mullen and Mary Ann Gordon. Edward was born in Ireland about 1828 to Hugh Mullen and Mary Carly and had the following siblings that I know of: Esther, John and Hugh. Mary Ann is a mystery on birth (some census Ireland others Aberdeenshire). She died 1894 on Fraserburgh Links - there’s a newspaper article about her funeral entitled ‘A Gypsy Funeral’ from that year that declares a great turnout. Mary Ann and Edward had 8 other children that I know of (William, Catherine, Mary Ann, Helen, John, Agnes, Edward Patrick, Anthony [named after Mary Ann’s father] and Elizabeth.

As for Gibsons. I have managed to dig a bit further back.

From my Robert (x3 Gt Grandfather), his father Robert and mother Ann Renwick (x4 Gt Grandparents) have been mentioned in this thread. The Renwicks btw head back through the years from Northumberland to Selkirkshire.

That Robert’s parents, Robert and Jean (both Gibson) (my x5 GG) have been listed here. I have no death records.

As far as I can tell through records, that Robert’s family line comes from East Lothian and Berwickshire. I have it back to 1690 if all correct.

That Jean’s parents:

As others have mentioned, were Alexander and Jean (Jane) (Irvine). Jean was born in Glasgow. Both Alexander and Jean (Jane) died in Dalkeith and are buried in Dalkeith New Cemetery (no grave marker or exact record of plot but Midlothian Council confirmed at least he is there). Their son John Brown Paterson Gibson (died 1881) is also buried in Dalkeith New Cemetery. No gravestone but I have found the plot. Their daughter Henrietta (died 1881) who married Peter Cairney is buried in the Watchtower Cemetery in Dalkeith - listing states a stone but I have yet to get access, a job for one day very soon. Henrietta was living in Brotherstone’s Close, Dalkeith when she died. That close no longer exists and jumps about in records of where it was, but def east side of Dalkeith High St.

I have Alexander’s father line going back to 1686 (his gt grandfather John) all in Ayrshire, Kilmarnock area. His mother’s (Jean Marshall) line is Kilmaurs, Ayrshire going back to 1672, allegedly her Gt Grandfather was William Marshall the King in Dumfriesshire.

I have Alexander’s wife Jean’s family as possibly kicking about Edinburgh but it's yet to be confirmed and needs way more work.

As for the other Rutherford brother, Agnes Gibson’s brother-in-law John, he headed to Canada where his descendants reside.

There are quite a few newspaper articles avail that I have found (court cases, accusations of witchcraft)….more so on Mullen side.

A lot of intermarrying and connections made.

For anyone coming down through Robert Gibson and Rose Ann Mullen I have found other graves in Aberdeen where a lot of the family ended up.
