WILLIAM MCGILL BORN TIPPERARY
« on: Wednesday 05 July 06 20:01 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather William McGill was apparently born in 1848 in Tipperary as shown on the 1851 Greenock census. He shows up on the 1851 scotland census as a 2 year old with his parents William born Greenock circa 1820 and Ann and a 10 day old baby male ( not named) in Greenock, Renfrewshire.  I would like to verify this if at all possible.
I think William and Ann were married in the late 1840's in Ireland where William Jr. was born and then moved to Greenock Scotland between 1848 and 1851.

Also, Ann (last name unknown) was listed as being from Galloway Ireland. I've checked atlases but can't find Galloway anywhere in Ireland. Does this place exist ?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
James

Hi
'Galloway' is probably Galway, either the county or town.

Cheers
