A sampler challenge-Isabella HADWIN b c'1848
« on: Thursday 06 July 06 04:31 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I've discovered a sampler in a Wellington, New Zealand antique shop made by "Isabella HADWIN age 11 1859". The text on the sampler is "Jesus Loves" but I didn't transcribe it.

I cannot find an Isabella HADWIN in New Zealand and she may not have come to this country, although I did find others of that surname.

I'd love to find out more about young Isabella, if possible.
Any Rootschatters keen on a hunt?

Regards, riley

Hi riley  :)

I love a good challenge, and a good sampler, so I thought I'd make a start.

There are over 200 HADWINs on each year of the England Census, including a few Isabellas born around the right time (I thought a good range was 1847-1849).  Most seem to be concentrated in Lancashire.

Afraid I can't make a connection yet.
