Missing Parishes on Ancestry - your help Please.
« on: Thursday 06 July 06 10:27 BST (UK) »
Hi there

Two months ago I wrote to Ancestry giving them the names & piece numbers for 14 parishes missed off of their 1841 census & was told they had "forwarded on this information to our programing department so they will be able to fix this bug."

A couple of days ago I wrote asking how much longer it would be before these parishes were online & recieved the following - ".... these problems get fixed in order of how many people report the problem."

If any of you use Ancestry could I ask that you take a minute & report ALL of the missing parishes listed below please. I myself am only interested in North Mimms but went on to check Ancestry's list with The National Archive Hertfordshire 1841 listing (one parish at a time) which was how I got the piece numbers.

Parish/Piece number
Letchworth 437
North Mimms 442
Puttenham 442
Rushden 446
Sanden, TOWNSHIP: Red-Hill (part) 446
Shenley 442
St Albans 447
St Andrew 447
St John 447
Studham (part) 442
Therfield, TOWNSHIP:Buckland 446
Wakely 443
Wallington, TOWNSHIP: Red-Hill (part) 446
Yardley 446

Hopefully if enough researchers report the missing parishes then Hertfordshire 1841 will be fully searchable & some 'lost' ancestors will be found.

I reported missing parts of Norfolk in the 1861 census about 2 years ago - it is still missing.

Sally

I have added the missing parishes that you have found to my own list on the Herts LOOKUP REQUESTS board.

Hi Rick

I check the Hertfordshire list on Ancestry every few days & will post a message to this thread if I find any of the missing pieces have been added.

Regards
Sally

Thank you Rick

The George & Charlotte are mine, the Jefries (sic) I presume is my husband's gggrandad James as the age of 9 & position in the family given is right for him.  ;D

I have written to Ancestry telling them that I have posted messages asking others to contact them about the missing pieces but as I don't know how many requests they need to get something done I am keeping my fingers crossed that enough researchers get in touch.

Thanks again for the VISE family on the 1841.

Regards
Sally

Hi

I have been puzzled by the fact that none of my Freeman family appear on the 1841 census as living in Meesden.

When I went to the Parish Church in Meesden a few months ago I found baptisms, marriages and burials in the registers pre 1841 so I know they were there!

Do you think that it is part of the problems you have reported?

If so I will happily add my voice to your protest!

Lyndsey
