Can anyone in the area possibly lookup a births/marriage

James Smith Born 1868 Meath maybe Kilmainham?
and Jane Murphy dates not known

They had 7 children
James
Joseph
Thomas  Nothing known on these boys
Elizabeth smith born 1898
Mary Jane Smith 1893
Sarah Anne Smith born 1899
Catherine smith born 22 June 1895 baptized st Marys church 23rd June 1895

i have written to the church but they have no other record on the family

I am at a loss as to where to go from here as live in england

the deaths of James smith and the girls are all registered in salford england and they seem to have died quite young the father James Smith died in 1957.

The story i remember is that Jane smith/Murphy died and James took the children to Salford england.  There was some family left behind as my grandmother had visits when she was a young girl.

Does anyone know where i go from here and that it has took some time to find deaths etc and i have no way of getting to ireland to research.

Maybe a census lookup of 1901 kilmainham area? For an Address!

thanks for any help in advance

hi,just wondered what made you think james was born in county meath?kilmainham is in dublin, perhaps james birthplace in meath has a similar sounding name.drogheda is county louth so maybe james birth parish is on the border of meath and louth.do you happen to know what james occupation was?it may help you to wade through the
large amounts of 'james smiths that you are bound to find.

There is a Kilmainham in Meath, both as a parish and a
village/townland.

The Village of Kilmainham is in the same parish, there is
also a Kilmainham townland in the parish of Kells.

The Griffiths Valuation Index shows a number of SMITH in
the parish of Kells, also a birth for a James Smith 1868.

I will PM you the deatilas of this James and other siblings,
perhaps they are your ancestors?.

gosh you are clever i think this may be him as i remember  my granny telling me that they were a very poor family and they worked in Bogs/pete land or something of that nature.

All of my family are now passed away as all of the women seemed to have died quite young up to about 60 ish is the eldest of my granny and my own mother died just before she was 40 so i have no one to ask only vague memories of what my granny told me as a young child and meath always stuck in my mind with kilmainham because she told me she went to visit relatives there in th 1940's 1950's.

I am really pleased i have got as for as i have but this site is brilliant and helped me get even further then i ever thought possible!!

I would like to find the births of his children (My Gt Granny Catherines Smiths 1895 Siblings Births/etc as i found the girls deaths purely as a fluke when some on the site gave me the catholic cemmtetry phone no for manchester and they were so helpful that i found all of James Smiths daughters  deaths but nothing else on them and i found nothing on his 3 boys

SO would you be able to tell me how i would find ther births

Thank so much I am really grateful x

From what I can see on the following website
http://homepage.eircom.net/~kellsnet/churches/Archive.htm
most of the records for the union of parishes of Kells still exist.

You can try writing to the dioces or directly to the PP at Kells, but
you will probably be refered to the Meath heritage centre:

Meath Heritage Centre
Mill Street
Trim
County Meath
Republic of Ireland
Telephone +353 46 36633
Contact: Noel Franch

There is a fee for service charged!.

Good luck.

Hiya,

I am a bit puzzled by your message Saddler. I qupte from the website The Kells Union of Parishes has a quantity of records, most of which are stored in the Representative Church Body Library, in Braemor Park, Dublin I have no argument regarding the records other than the fact that these are Anglican records that are stored in the RCB library. Would it not be a better idea to look at the records of the Catholic Church http://www.from-ireland.net/parishrecords/meath/meathrcindex.htm Do you have any idea what fee the Meath Heritage Centre charge?
