There are "submitted entries" on the IGI at www.familysearch.org suggesting that Emma was the daughter of John GLEADELL and Matilda LEIGHTON (or LIGHTON).  It says she was born 27 Dec 1848 and died 7 July 1887 (119 years ago today!)

1851 census seems to confirm a LEIGHTON/LIGHTON link

Church St, Gainsborough
John GLEADHILL 33 Porter (coal), Blyton
Matilda 27 Normanby
Emma 2 Gainsborough
Matilda 2months Gainsborough
Ann LIGHTON (visitor, wid) 73 Formerly a Nurse(?), Faldingworth

Matilda LEIGHTON was bap 16 APR 1824 Normanby By Spital, dau of John and Ann

The 1861 census entry is less than complete ... but it's all you'll get :(
2408/103
XXX's Yard, Spring Gardens, Gainsborough
Female GLEADELL 39 Sturton Station Master's wife
Male 12
Male 10
Male 8
Male 7
Female 6
Female 4
Female 1
All birthplace "Unknown"!

(Sturton was the next station along the line from Blyton ... Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway) ... on second thoughts, it could have been Sturton le Steeple in Notts - where Benjamin was born in c1873.

hi Matilda

Somehow missed your thread, but my hubbie's grandmother was Harriet Gleadle - her grandfather was Thomas Gleadle, born Blyton about 1828, and I know that he's related to the station master, John Gleadle/Gleadell - think they might be brothers  ???

It will take me a while to rummage through all my notes, etc, but I'll see what I can dig up and I'll PM you later  :)

best wishes

Clara
