Mathias, Pembroke Dock
« on: Friday 07 July 06 15:12 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me go one further?
I have,
William Stephen Mathias, born Basingstoke 1886
father
William Stephens Mathias, born Llanstadwell 1850
father
William Stephens Mathias, christened Hubberston, 1824 (not est. birth 1825 born Hobberaam as in Ancestry)
father
John Mathias wife Elizabeth.

This is the end of the road for me at the moment with this line.
The IGI has several John Mathias marrying Elizabeths round about the right time, but I have no idea if one of them is my John.
Is there anyone out there who can help take me further back?
Any help or advise much appreciated.

I don't know if this is any help to you - Captain Mathias has no first name in this article, but I am happy to attach it for you.  I think that my family might have at least known him.

Thank you, welshcockney.
I do so hope he is one of mine. I've got so many 'legends' in my family it would be a refreshing change to have a REAL one.
I appreciate that very much.

You are welcome - unfortunately I do not know the date of the newspaper cutting - I just found it among my great-aunt's things when she died 23 years ago and I kept it in case he was one of mine.  I don't think he is but then again one never knows about one's great-grandparents' siblings.  If you find out that he is one of yours, let me know and I'll send it to you :)

Actually this has now led me on to a little research.  There is a history of the ship "Three Brothers" here: http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/v1/vanderbilt.htm

I have done very little on my Welsh side as yet, welshcockney.
I've had enough problems with the shower in Hampshire. Luckily I think I have them for quite a respectable distance back, now. Well, to 1806 at least.
Any help with the Mathias side of the family is welcome.
