1851 James William and Drusilla Caws
« on: Saturday 08 July 06 04:06 BST (UK) »
I wonder if someone could check the 1851 census. I have James Caws and his wife Drusilla (Shiner) in 1841 and 1861, they married in St Mary's Portsea in Novenber 1840. They were at the Seaview Hotel in 1861 as Hotel Keeper and wife of Hotel keeper. He was formerly a mariner.
I do not have any record of any children.
does anyone know anything about the Seaview Hotel?
Thanks
Sandra  :)

The 1851 census has James & Drusilla CAWS at
Myrtle Cottage
Ryde
Isle of White

James occupation shown as 'mariner' along with other mariners
on the same page.

James has a vistor name of Andrew Daish (master carpenter) born
Wipingham, Hampshire 1821.

Thank you very much, Mike. It fills another gap in my knowledge.
Andrew Daish doesn't mean anything at the moment, but will keep a record of him.
Cheers

Hi sorry in advance if I’m on wrong chat
In my tree on Ancestry my great grandfather George Henry Shiner was adopted by his maternal aunt Drucilla Caws and her husband James they lived at Seaview Inn/hotel until James died then Drucilla and George had to sell for inheritance tax purposes.
Lots more info at the hotel as it’s still there they have bills of sale etc. there.
George went on to father my grandfather George Herbert Burden before marrying Louisa Murcell and having a large family ( not sure if any of them realise they had an older big brother)
Anyone with anymore information please let me know as that’s now a dead end
Julie

Welcome to Rootschat.

Could you please be more specific about your “dead end”. Ie what is it exactly that you are wanting to know…the next rung on the ladder you require?
