Hi

There is nothing close on the NFHS CDs. I think you will have to go to the archives and look at the microfiche for St Marys 1814-1816.

Like Jane I can't see a marriage but there are other children baptised at Nottingham St Mary which may or may not be the same couple. It's quite a sad story  :'(

I'll list them all in the order name, date, abode and father's occupation

William   09/08/1816 Toll House Hill tailor
Dinah     03/07/1817 Clinton St tailor buried 12/07/1817 age 1 month
John      31/07/1818 Fine Street tailor buried 28/12/1818 age 5 months*
Joseph    27/11/1825 Lincoln Street framesmith
Ann       05/09/1827 Lincoln Street tailor buried 02/06/1829 age 1
Caroline  20/02/1831 Harris' Place tailor
Robert    18/08/1833 Brook St plumber buried 30/11/1834 age 16 months
Harriet   06/12/1835 Independant Hill Glazier buried 04/01/1837 age 1

Also an earlier one at Radford St Peter
Sarah 06/11/1814 Radford tailor

More burials at Nottingham St Mary - abode given as Lincoln Street
Elizabeth 08/02/1824 age 1
Joseph 29/07/1825 age 4
Susannah 25/05/1826 age 2
This suggests that the gap in the baptism dates means they moved briefly out of St Mary's and had some children elsewhere

Sarah Norman buried 03/05/1831 age 36

Marriage of William Norman to Sarah Titterton Nottingham St Mary 02/08/1831. So either a second marriage or those last two baptisms belong to a different William and Sarah

* It's possible this John died and a second John was born shortly afterwards?

Just picking this one up again Jo, hope you don't mind. Is this your family in 1861? I'm going by the 1901 census where Eliza Millership has a brother William Norman c.1858

RG9 2468 36 27
Derby Road Nottingham
William Norman head 45 lace maker Nottingham
Eliza wife 44
Mary dau 21
John son 19
Sarah dau12
Eliza dau 9 Sneinton
William son 3 Sneinton
Dosey mother 60 housekeeper Belven Yorks

If these are yours, then I think you may have been chasing the wrong family above. There is a William Norman bap to John and Doesey at Nottingham St Peters 20/07/1815. Also 8 other children including a John in 1810.

Apologies if I'm barking up the wrong tree here :)

That's great Jo - glad it's coming together! I see your Dosey was also baptised there, so they were probably marrying in the bride's family parish.
Might be worth asking on the East Riding board if anyone has access to the records and could tell you whether it stated a parish for John?
