Help interpretting Royal Naval Record
« on: Friday 11 November 05 10:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi Sue,

I'm having no success at finding any records on my father, Evan Douglas Wilson (1896-1957) on the National Archives site - although I know that he served in the RNVR during WW1.

Did you have the Service No for the ancestor that you were searching for?

Any advice welcome.

Cheers, Romilly.

Hi Romilly,

I had searched before and not had any luck then I decided to have one last try and all I entered was my relatives name, no dates or birthplace and BINGO up he came. I couldn't get my credit card out of my wallet fast enough!

I'm not sure whether the on line resource is complete or whether it is still being added to. I had a look for your father but like you came up with nothing.

Sorry I can't be more help to you, good luck with your search.

Sue

Hi Annie,

Thank you so much for that!! (Have just downloaded it). :) :) :)

Now why didn't I try his names that way round? (Although christened "Evan Douglas", he was always known as "Doug", or "Tug"...his navy nickname:-)

Cheers, Romilly.

Hi Again,

Help!!

I've downloaded what I think is my father's Medal Listing Record, - see below (hopefully).
However...I cannot make head or tail of it :(

Can anyone explain it to me please??

Cheers, Romilly.

Hi Again,

I've spoken to the Research section at the National Archives, & sadly the record (above) that I downloaded is not my father's record. :(

So...if there is anyone out there who has a rellie called Douglas E. Wilson, born 20.3.1920, who served during WW2...they are welcome to this medal record!

Apparantly the RNVR records for WW1 are due to come on-line in Jan/Feb next year...& so I shall either have to wait until then or try & find the PRO at Kew in person. :)

Thanks again for all the help.

All Best Wishes, Romilly.

Hi Romilly,

I'm sorry that the record you managed to download was not the right one. Still you should be able to get a record early next year.

Good luck with that.
