The boy's name Lot is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "veil."  From the bible, Lot was a nephew of Abraham. He fled God's destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, but his wife disobeyed God's command, looked back upon the city, and was turned into a pillar of salt.
