Hi Sirjasper

Welcome to Rootschat!

I hope that very soon Rootschatters will be helping you.

Meanwhile, who did Esther marry & where?

Can you give us the census refs for 1881 onwards?

Sometimes naming patterns can be useful.  It also helps to know whether she was consistent in her date and place of birth.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi Arronroots,
Esther Evans married William Thomas 1873 in the Register Office Swansea district.
Census sheet refs. :- 1881.....RG11/5503 page 23
                                  1891....RG12/4414 page 10
                                  1901..William Thomas is shown as
                                            widower.
She was not consistent in age shown as 30 in 1881 and 37 in 1891 but birth place is consistent at Llanllwni.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Sirjasper

Esther is certainly not jumping out of the censuses!

I found a potential father for her, but cannot find him with a daughter Esther on later censuses:

1851 census         HO107/2483/20/32

John MORGANS H M 30 - shoem master - Carmarthenshire Llanllwni
Elizth W M 30 - do
Margt dau 7 - do
Mary dau 5 - do
Sarah dau 3 - do
Rachel dau 9 mo - do
John EVANS shoem 20 - shoemaker app - do

Address: Gwaested, Llanllwni, Carmarthenshire

Far from certain that it is him & there are so many to choose from!

Do you have the marriage cert for Esther?  Who were the witnesses?

Any other clues that you can find would help enormously.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi Arronroots,
Yes I do have Esther Evans marriage certificate and the witnesses are:-
Dan Davies   and   Thomas Evans   both could not write and therefore made their mark.
Her stated age is 22, spinster residing at Cwmclydach,Llangafelach. She had to make her mark as presumably she could not write.
That's about all I can glean from the certificate.
Many thanks,
Sirjasper.
