Hi all,

I would be grateful if someone could look up the marriage of Winifred Gladstone Findlay to Patrick Joseph Hickey circa 1920 in Broughty Ferry........any details like church, parents etc. would help me to start chipping away at the biggest brick wall that you can imagine.

Hi Gadget,

Wonderful  :)  :)  :) what a quick result!

Possibly  a couple of bricks out of the wall.

Would you agree that it looks as if Winifred's mother has married a second time to someone called Scott?

After many years trying to find my Grandfather (same name as this Patrick Joseph) I thought that I would change course.

I have Grandfather and family in Chapelizod, Co. Dublin in the 1901 census....but after spending a lot of time and money, no one could find a marriage in Ireland or England.

I remembered something that I had heard as a child about having some Scottish blood in us, which led me to thinking why would someone form a village on the outskirts of Dublin emigrate to a small town in the Northeast of Scotland......and came up with the thought that maybe one of his parent had came from there. His mother's maiden name was Graham.

I would also like to find the birth of Winifred.

Well if only, my view would be that Winifred was illegitimate. There is no mention of a father and I think it would say 'maiden surname' after her mother's name otherwise. If her parents had married the cert would read something like

Father - xxxx Flindlay, job, deceased

Mother - Elizabeth Gladstone Findlay, maiden surname xxxx,  now Scott or

Elizabeth Gladstone Scott, formerly Findlay, maiden surname xxxx

If you want to find Winifred's birth cert - 1901-1902. It might be worth your while going to

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

It's pay to view but very  reasonable and has all birth records from 1855 to 1905 available to view and download. It also has all censuses 1841-1901, and marriages (1855-1930) and deaths (1855-1955). An index of the Old Parish Records baptisms and marriages/banns (established church - to 1854) is also there, as are wills and a wide variety of interesting info.

Hi Gadget,

Thanks again......I see what you mean about Winifred possibly being illigitimate......I agree that it looks a probability.

Have tried the marriages for Patrick Joseph Hickey & Mary Graham.....not one!

Once again thanks very much for your help.

Think I'd also be wondering about the Gladstone as Winifred's middle name, and following up Elizabeth Greig Findlay - a birth and death record and her possible marriage post-1901 to Mr Scott. These would all give info on her parents.

There might be Bastardy records but I'm not very knowledgable about them and  not too sure about the dates. They could have ended  ??? ??? ???

Try Pam's info:
