You may very well have the Certificate in front of you,but you won't be the first to have bought  the wrong Certificate.Surely you must think it strange that the Mary showing as the Wife of the John Griffiths in Nant Road in 1901 had no middle name!Seriously though,we have got to be flexible in our approach to these matters,as pre conceived ideas are more than often wrong!

There are at least two John Griffiths on the 1871who might fit :

RG10/5656 Folio  144 Page 21
Ponkey

Aged 10 months, born Ruabon
Parents - what looks like Emble and Sarah. "Emble", 39, b. Ruabon,  was a lamp cleaner at colliery.

RG10/5653 Folio 166 Pages 17/18
Open Court Road, Ponkey

Aged 4, born Rhos
Parents - Edward and Sarah , Edward was 32, b. Ruabon, a coal Miner

Which one of these is yours, yogi?

Think it's one of those problems, yogi, with our Welsh ancestors - there were so many of them with the same names, places and dates of birth :(

It means that you can't jump a certificate but have  to get the birth certs before the marriage certs.

Not fair, is it  :(

It means that you can't jump a certificate but have  to get the birth certs before the marriage certs.

It also helps if at least one of the siblings had a lesser used name.  I nearly always end up ordering a sibling's birth certificate first to make sure I'm ordering the right John or Mary ;D
In this instance yogi perhaps you should order a certificate for Myfanwy Griffiths (Wrexham 1894 Q3 11b page 253).
