Help!!! Graham's in Balfron?
« on: Wednesday 19 July 06 16:40 BST (UK) »
Hi,  Can anyone help me trace a William Graham, according to the 1891 census records he was born in Balfron Stirlingshire about 1853, his parents were John Graham and Agnes Brown.  I can't find anything on the IGI for anyone, or any other census records for him.  I have tried FreeCen and Scotlands People with no luck.... what could I do next?
regards, Carol

Was his wife Sarah?

There is a William Graham, Boilermaker shown on the 1881 at 38 John Knox St, Glasgow, aged 28, married and born in Balfron with

Sarah, wife, aged 27 born at Old Cummock, Ayrshire
John, son, aged 2 born at Glasgow

He seems to be the only one born in Balfron c. 1853 in the 1881

Hi, thanks, that's him, wonder where his other son was, he also had a child called James who would have been 6 in 1881.  I have tried to see the 1881 census on FreeCen and scotlands people, he isn't listed on either, where did you see a copy? Is there another website I could use?
Thanks again, hopefully this will also help me get the 1871 on his wife.
regards, Carol

Hello Carol, I have the cd's of the 1881 census.  re: James born c. 1875, is he listed on the 1891 census that you have? What was Sarah's maiden name?

Let me know and if James was still alive in 1891, I'll see if I can find him in 1881, he may be with another family member.

regards,

Lindsay

Hi Lindsay,
Yes, that is the dates for James.  Williams wife was Sarah Scott, she was from Auchinlech, born 1854, according to the 1891 census they also had William, 1883, Agnes 1884, Malcolm, 1887 and Robert 1890.  Unfortunately sometime around 1894, they moved to Ireland and all information is then lost.
Regards., Carol

Sorry, Carol, I must have missed seeing this one.

Do you think that this might be James?

In 1881, living at 128 Drygate St, Glasgow

(Mrs) SCOTT, Widow, Seamster, aged 57 born in Ireland
with grandson, James GRAHAM, aged 6 born in Glasgow
