Help with birth certificate

On my mothers birth certificate under the heading name of mother ect it says
Annie Whiteley, late Preston, formerley preston.

What does that mean

Welcome to Rootschat!  :)

It suggests that (unless someone made a mistake) Annie PRESTON married someone called PRESTON - maybe a cousin?  She later married someone called WHITELEY.

The "late" name is her first married name, whereas the "formerly" is her maiden name - not altogether clear in this case!!
