PROUDFOOT / BELL / COLVIN
« on: Wednesday 19 July 06 19:05 BST (UK) »
Looking for parents  of both  William Proudfoot   b. 1808, Johnstone, d. 1895 Johnstone,  m.  1832-3, and  Jean Bell  b.1812, Maxwelltown/Troqueer, Kirkcudbright  d. 1887 Johnstone. They had 8 children. Their son James b.1836 d. 1899 was my greatgrandfather.
They had a daughter, Ann Colvin Proudfoot b. Dec. 15, 1846 d. date unknown.
James and his wife Janet Marchbank also had a daughter Ann Colvin Proudfoot b. Apr.29, 1871 d. Dec. 23, 1895.
I'm curious as to where the Colvin middle name came from in both cases.

Can anyone answer these questions ?

Thanks,

Jimbo

Hi Jimbo

Given that you know William and Jean's death dates and they were in Scotland, you will be able to find there death certificates on the Scotlands People Death Index and then view and download the images of the certificates. The death certificates should give the parents' names.

Scotlands People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk is pay to view but very cheap - units are 20p each. A look up in the index (given you know the date and place) and accessing the image would cost 6 units per death registration.
