Austin and Griffen Families, Great Canford

Hi,

Looking for any information on the Dorset branch of my family tree!

GEORGE AUSTIN (born about 1809 in Ashington) married
ANN GRIFFEN (born 1814 in Corfe Mullen) in March 1831 in Great Canford.

I have found the family living in Great Canford in the 1841 and 1851 census, and then Ann living in Wimborne Minster (as a widow) in 1861.

Ann's parents were JOHN and SARAH GRIFFEN, but this is all I have so far.

Any information anyone can pass on would be most appreciated.

Hi Siobhan,

There is a useful website www.dorset-opc.com which might have information for you.

Great Canford is now known as Canford Magna; my daughter was baptised in the church there  and I live on the outskirts of Wimborne Minster. 

I belong to the Dorset FHS and would be happy to have a look at their records next time I go to their hq.

Many thanks for the information.  I'll take a look at the website this afternoon.

Also thanks for the offer of looking up their info.  I'm based in Milton Keynes so not much chance of getting down to Dorset myself.

ann griffin born 17th nov 1814 bapt 27th nov 1814 corfe mullen.parents john griffin and sarah.she seems to be the eldest of many  ;D
siblings include-
james bapt 1817
henry born 6th march 1819 bapt 21st march 1819
james born 4th june 1821 bapt 1st july 1821
maria bapt 24th aug 1823
eliza born 23rd jan 1827 bapt 8th july 1827
