Sidney George SMITH - Aston / Erdington

Hi,
I've completely hit a brick wall with this side of my family. I know my great grandfather was probably from Aston/Erdington- name Sidney( or Sydney ) George Smith.

His wife was Elizabeth.His daughter,  my grandmother,  Ethel Lillian was born in 1904 and she had an older brother Sidney and sisters Florence( Florrie) and Edith( Edie).

The problem I'm up against is not having my greatgrandfather's D.O.B and obviously the surname SMITH!!

Where should I start in trying to find the family?
Any advice gratefully accepted,

Hi,
Thank you so much for that information, I suppose I won't really know for sure until I gather more facts together. I should have added on the original posting that on my grandmother's marriage certificate  in 1934, her father was deceased and his trade was listed as stonemason.

Is there anywhere I could look for stonemasons in Birmingham up to 1934?
