Is there any way to sort out one's postings?
« on: Friday 21 July 06 15:53 BST (UK) »
Hi

If I see a request for information and remember  that I gave information about the same topic a while back, but can't recollect when, I have two options - search my previous posts or do an RC search. This can be quite time consuming, especially when (as was just the case) the posting fell in the middle of my 'previous posts' and I wasn't sure what exact wording or board to search on on an RC search.

Are there any tips to make the searching faster?

Nope there isnt.

I do those same things you mentioned. Either a RC search or go back over all my old posts.

as far as I know there is nothing faster.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Thanks for that - I wonder how Tricia and Tatti manage?

I do try to follow Bob's accepted practice and refer to threads rather than repeat myself but methinks it will get worse.

Maybe I should put a unique code on each of my postings and search on that  ;)

Now why didn't I think of that 2669 postings ago  ??? ???

Hi Gadget,

You probably know this already, but just to be sure ....
Are you using the advanced search to the best effect ??

then at least you can stipulate that only your posts are searched, ....
and you can limit the time period you are searching through

and maybe seeing one or two near misses might jog your memory for a particular word to search for

Even using the "search order" (newest posts first, oldest posts first, smallest, largest, etc) might help.

hope this helps,
Bob

Seriously though, looking through the near misses sometimes reminds me that I used a particular word or phrase in the post I'm looking for

Yes Bob - thanks I do do that

The problem with this one was that the topic was cousins - now I've mentioned cousins in so many postings and I just could not remember which board it was on. I knew it was in the last three months.

In the end, I remembered that I'd had a PM about a particular cousinship from one of your colleagues. I then found the date and searched postings for then ;)

It took me 10 mins. Good job I don't delete many of my PMs  :o

Still - at least I remembered the posting and the PM, so the old brain cells are still working   :)
