Hi Alan, I think I would try for the 1851 census Sarah Murdoch and family, then see if any of Sarahs siblings were born in Scotland, it might narrow it down... However if she's working away from home, then you would have to search for the parents names, but that might be a fruitless task if they didn't come to Scotland
Afterthought-you could try for Sarhas mums death cert in Scotland , under her married and maiden name. The double search for females on S.P. Then it would tell you whether she was a widow or still married at time of death to Sarahs dad.
What were her parents names and I'll have a wee look on Griffiths Valuation .
