Caffell's Umbrella Makers. Poplar
« on: Monday 24 July 06 21:49 BST (UK) »
My relation James Caffell born 1789 Beckington, Somerset had his own Umbrella factory in the Poplar area of London.
Can anyone supply me with any information of the factory and details of the products made there. I do not know the name of the road where it was situated, but when James died the factory was taken over by his son Rueben Caffell.
Any information regarding the factory or the family would be most welcome.

I assume this is you - if not, found via 'google' on rootsweb.
James CAFFELL, an Umbrella Maker and Master, died 4 Oct 1859, aged 69,
at 27 Little Guidford Street, St George Bloomsbury. For 1827-1851 he appears
to have lived in the Stepney/MEOT area. For 1875 - 1909, the family appears to
have had a shop in King's Cross Road.

Any family info would be appreciated.

We have a photo of a building named "Caffell Umbrella Hospital" - can someone
please help with its location.
