I'm looking for information on the parents of William Arnold born, 1670, probably in Chichester!
It was suggested to me that his wife was Mary Edes, and that they married on 8th Sept.1695 at St Peter The Great, Chichester. On the IGI I see that they had two daughters, but I'm looking for a son, also called William, who was born 1697 in Chichester So I don't know if Mary Edes was his wife or not!!!

                             HELP!!!
Betty

Hello Betty

SMI has a marriage for William ARNOLD and  Mary EDES on 8th Sept 1695 at St Peter the Great Chichester - there are two member submitted records on the IGI one shows the wrong year but an extracted record on the IGI also shows the year 1695.

Had a look on the BVRI only 3 William Arnolds come up in Chichester, while all were baptised at St Peter the Great none have a father William and the dates are way out.

Hi Suey,

On the IGI, William Arnold and Mary Edes had two daughters.

1   Elizabeth, DOB 3/9/1695
2.  Ann, DOB18/8/1700

As there was no son mentioned, perhaps they are not the parents I'm looking for!

The other side of the coin is that perhaps the father of William (born1697) wasn't called William as I thought. Perhaps I'm on the wrong track!

William (b.1697) was married to Mary Rupson in 1722.

Suey, forgive my ignorance, but what does SMI and BVRI mean?

Betty

Again from the SMI
Pagham and Tarring Peculiar Marriage Licence - 27th December 1722.

William ARNOLD of Pagham Husbandman and Mary RUPSON spinster of Pagham

Sussex Record Society No.12 -  Jn BARNES Chichester Cordwainer
(John Barnes was a sponsor)

The marriage did take place at St Peter the Great, Chichester again the extra info under the names says Pagham.

Maybe a look at the Parish Registers for Pagham might be the way to go.
