MARRIAGE

No record of the marriage of John & Eliza in Frant.

BURIALS

Henry ARNOLD (age 2 months) bur 28 Oct 1825
(possibly the Henry above)

No record of John or Eliza being buried in Frant (which is odd).  The records go up to Feb 1881.

There's a gravestone for a John Arnold d. 1844, but age at death is supposedly 60 according to the transcription.

Hi Suey, Nell nd Dave,

I've decided to take your advice and get the Marriage certificate for Frederick Arnold and Susan Braybon. In the 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses, all of them state that Frederick Arnold was born in Frant, Sussex.

I will also get the Birth certificate of Esther Arnold (born1838 ) to get information on her parents.

Regards

Betty

Hi Betty

It crossed my mind that Esther's birth certificate would be a good idea.  Her birth should have been registered in Ticehurst (or, less likely, Tonbridge or Uckfield).  I checked the GRO Index but couldn't see anything for her.  :(

You may need to contact the local registrar's office direct.  I think Crowborough inherited the records from Ticehurst.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for information.
Can you tell me the best (and cheapest) way to buy birth  death and marriage certificates ? The GRO are very expensive.

Betty

The GRO charge only about £7 per certificate but you need the GRO reference (which has'nt been found). Not sure about the price if you go via the local registars office but they will charge for a search.  Suggest you give Crowborough a ring to discuss.  Phone number is 01892 653803.

Cheers
Dave

The price is £7 wherever you get it.  Local registrars will often do a search free though if you give them as much detail as you can and are helpful about not charging if it is the wrong one.  The GRO are not!
