Whatever happened to Jennet?
« on: Tuesday 25 July 06 15:26 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have ant theories regarding my missing great aunt?
I have her on 1891 Glamorgan living at 32 High St, Aberdare (Hirwaun) with;
Llewelyn Havard age 47 born Ystradfellte
Mary Havard age 37 born Ystradfellte
Gwen Havard age 2 born Hirwaun
*Jennet Havard* age 6 born Hirwaun
Rees Thomas age 16 born Pontneddfechan stepson.

Mary Havard dies 1892
Llewelyn dies 1894
Gwen and Jennet then live with Rees Thomas at 15, High St, but Gwen dies 1899.
By 1901 census, Jennet is living with her uncle (Llewelyns' brother) in Rhigos, Glam.
William Havard age 56 born Ystradfellte
Sarah Havard age 53 born Hirwaun
David Harts age 29 born Hirwaun stepson
Thomas John Harts age 4 grandson
Jennet Havard age 16  niece.

Cant find birth reg for Jennet, only one for Janet Havard apr qtr 1884 Merthyr, or a Margaret Jennet Havard jan qtr Neath.
I wonder if the Janet could be her? There is also a death for a Janet Havard july qtr 1901 age 17. I have a horrible feeling this could be her as I can find no marriage (up till 1930).
Both parents couln't read or write, so wonder if she was registered as Janet instead of Jennet and they took it for granted?

Grateful for any Ideas, before I end up sending for more certs!!

Hi emsgirl,

I was given the name Janet but growing up in London there was one little lad in the street who could only manage "Jennet";  so your Janet/Jennet  theory could be right.

Good luck,

Nanny Jan

Thanks NannyJan,
Jennet was her grandmothers name and it also ran in the family for generations before that, on both sides. Think Mary and Llewelyn told registrar "Jennet", but he put Janet instead and as neither could read they just accepted it.
It's just quite sad if it is her as that would leave Rees Thomas as the only one of Marys' children to live longer than his teens.Good job he did though or I wouldn't be here today!!
