BOWMAN, Benjamin

l'm trying to find a birth and parents of Benjamin BOWMAN believed to have been born bet. 1826 and 1830 in Leeds.
He immigrated to Australia in 1849 where he married Harriett Williams.
Anything at all would be greatly appreciated.

This is a long shot!

There is a Benjamin Bowman on the IGI christened 29 JUL 1827   Hampsthwaite, Yorkshire.  Mother:  Hannah Bowman.

Hampsthwaite is near Harrogate, Yorkshire, and within striking distance of Leeds.

Hi Jill,

l did have that info noted down as a possible. l was hoping there may have been further records out there somewhere. From childrens records his birth could have been anywhere from 1825 -1830.

Hi Skurrie,

Sorry!  I've searched the 1841 census but cannot find a Benjamin Bowman born in Yorkshire.   If he was illegitimate, i.e. if he was the one on the IGI, it is possible that his mother married and he was entered on the census under her married name.  I looked for a marriage for a Hannah Bowman between 1837-1841 on the offchance, again without success, but of course she could have married pre-registration or even not bothered to register!

Sorry I can't be of more help and you've probably already been down those roads!

Hi I'm a descendant of Robert bowman, Benjamin was born in cummersdale. They went to live in great corby, they were blacksmiths.
