Folfadda, County Mayo
« on: Thursday 27 July 06 15:07 BST (UK) »
I have now found 1 other birth (Geraghty) for Folfadda in 1872 and 1 for Falfadda (Horan)in 1867. The birth certificate I have is for (Kelly) Folfadda also in 1872. On the two certificates I have found the father was a labourer and on my own the father is a farmer.  Does anyone have any info about this village (?)please,  as it does not appear on any information site or map.

Googling 'Falfadda' brings up a few sites - seems to be Ballyvary area.
There doesn't seem to be too much info though.
However I have looked around a bit more - Falfadda is not a townland nor is Ballyvary - although that does exist - we pass through the area when we visit.
if you go to www.leitrim-roscommon.com you can search the 1901 census for much of Mayo.
Ballyvary is in the parish of Kildacommoge and the barony of Gallen. There are some Horan, Geraghty and Kelly families in the area.
best wishes again

Yes, it is certainly beginning to look as if the error was in the spelling of Falfadda as Folfadda. I'll go with Falfadda! Many thanks for your help again!
