I am actively researching the Batchelder/Batchelor name in Norfolk and Suffolk UK, due to my maternal family connection.

Jonathan Batchelder is a name I recognize, but isn't so far as I can tell, connected to my 'clan' yet.
I think he was actually baptized in Sisland Norfolk December 6 1786, son of Jonathan Batchelor (1732-1819) and Elizabeth nee Whitton. This couple had married in Sisland April 12 1774 and had 13 children of which Jonathan was the 11th.

The surname alternated between Batchelder and Batchelor through the generations.

If anyone still interested in marriage of Jonathan and Maria, the licence is on line at FindMyPast. It looks like the bondsman was Robert Batchelder (farmer) of Caister Saint Edmund. if Jonathan's father was also called Jonathan, Robert could be an uncle or brother

ah that would make more sense now - looking at the Caistor St Edmund marriages, I see Robert Batchelder m Jemima Osborne on March 31 1819. The Jonathan Batchelder who married Maria Barber in Broome on September 20 1819 had a child called 'Osborne'....this must be the same family carrying the female surname forward.

I would summize perhaps that Jonathan and Robert Batchelder were brothers?

hi thanks for that  - yes I have the batchelder clan in sisland - the only correction I would add to the issue of jonathan and elizabeth is Francis, who was baptized with James on April 24 1785. Therefore the couple had 13 children, but at least half of them died young.
