On William and Fanny's marriage certificate, William's father's name is James MacDonald and his occupation is builder.

Many thanks, Winston, for trying to find William's birth. He is certainly elusive!

In the 1881 Census, I found a William MacDonald, unmarried, cabinet maker, born in Doncaster, York, boarding at Woodland Hill, 2 Portland St., Lambeth, Surrey, England, where the Head of Household was a widow, Ann Chatlacombe, but his age was 42, which would have meant that he was born about 1839-40, which could explain why I haven't found him in the 1853-6 Birth Records. But this William may not be mine, anyway!

Just been having another look at this one,

I found this one in the 1871 census living in Doncaster with a father James but he is down as a Hawker


Living at what looks like Robinsons Row, Doncasters

James Mcdonald 60 Hawker Glasgow, Scotland
