Hi cogger,

After trying to find her for ages in 1841 census and getting nowhere, I went at it a bit differently. Sometimes a different approach will help. After a lot of fooling about I began to wonder, with the age difference between William and Elizabeth, if perhaps William was not Clarissa's father. I found Clarissa married to John SAUNDERS (31 years her senior) in 1861 census. Eventually tracked the marriage to

SAUNDERS John - DALLYN Clarissa Dec 1/4 1860 Taunton 5c 701

DALLYN Clarissa b Mar 1/4 1840 Williton 10 552

now 1841 census

HO107/936/14 Folio 5 Page 4
Higher Court Farm
Treborough

DALLYN Elizabeth 30 Y (Yes born in County) Farmer
DALLYN Lavinia 3 Y
DALLYN Calassa 1 Y (little squiggle up above first a - not sure what he meant - surfice to say he was having trouble with the name)
+ numerous ag labs and servants.Even a school mistress so she was clearly quite well off

Cheers Kris  :D

OK here is the marriage

STEVENS William = DALLYN Elizabeth Dec 1/4 1847 Bristol 11 184

and Elizabeth's first marriage

DALLYN William of Treborough = Eliz. ETTERY 12 Aug 1836 Leighland by Lic

There is this burial....looks like a good possibility  ;)

DALLYN William 16 Apr 1841 Leighland St Giles aged 40 years

Now I can't find Elizabeth baptised in Old Cleeve but I did find this one in the parish where the first marriage took place.

ETTRY Elizabeth baptised 3 Oct 1807 Leighland parents Thomas and Elizabeth

Think you will find these transcripts very interesting, there are siblings listed from 1789 - looks like Elizabeth was their youngest.

Cheers Kris  :D

PS: (found later and added) Now Clarissa's baptism is listed in Treborough (same site) but not till 1845 aged 5 (listed as Dhallyn?) No mention of father being deceased but I do think that looks like Williams Death. Doesn't appear to be a very common name  ;)

DALLYN William died Jun 1/4 1841 Williton 10 355

Just realised this thread is from July last year - Hope it has been of help  ;D
