Thank you all very much for your input. Sarra, I did download an image of Richard's death certificate and it stated he had been in Victoria for 45 years, and as he died in 1921, that makes the year 1876 that he arrived there; no mention of being in South Australia before that. I checked the freeCEN for 1871 and still couldn't find the family in Cornwall, or anywhere else. Perhaps the family or Richard did go to SA first, but the informant didn't bother giving the correct info when Richard died. Who would bother at such a time?
I checked prov site for Assisted and Unassisted passengers to Victoria, but no luck, and the Assisted list doesn't go up as far as 1876 - yet.
tropicalj, you WERE helpful. If I lash out again and get Matthew's death (1918)certificate (god, it gets costly, doesn't it?), there may be differing info as to how long he'd been in in Oz. If he's Richard's brother (and the age fits) that will give another clue hopefully.
OzyBob, You have the first three (of 6) of Richard and Angelina's children listed, and I can remember the good old days when all the oldies were alive back in the late 60s. Florence and Fanny I remember well. One of their sisters, Ruby, was my mother in law's mother. Dammit, and we all say it, why wasn't I interested in Genie stuff back then? I could have quizzed Ruby. Thank you for all the info. The people you mentioned could be siblings of Richard's. Unfortunately STEVENS is such a common Cornish name, so I will keep all that you posted, for future reference.
There are probably more responses to your replies but for now I'm getting out as I was 20 seconds away from getting timed out. For now, thank you all again.
Regards, Irene
