Long shot but worth a try I guess....
« on: Wednesday 02 August 06 18:53 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find the marriage of Thomas Taylor and Martha ???

I cannot find their marriage neither can I find any of their children's birth records to confirm Martha's maiden name.

Thomas was a plumber and seemed to travel around leading windows and roofs/rooves (oh which is correct?!)

I have them on 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1881 censuses.

This is them on the 1861....

Thomas Taylor, 44, Plumber, born Thirsk, Yorks
Martha Taylor, 40, born Northampton
William Taylor, 15, brass moulders apprentice, born London
Thomas Taylor, 12, born London
Mary J Taylor, 6, born Halifax
Margaret Taylor, 4, born Bradford

There was also another daughter, Ann, she died in infancy but was born in York.

In the 1851 census they are in York, in 1861 in Oldham, in 1871 in Huddersfield (with an adopted son) and in 1881 they are in Dewsbury, and back in Huddersfield in 1891.  Thomas has died by 1881.

Obviously the family travelled so they could have married anywhere, or maybe they didn't marry...?  As I said I can't any births for the kids so i'm not sure what to do to find Martha's maiden name....

Any ideas?

TIA
Legs

Legs, looks like it's going to be a bit of a nightmare to track these rellies down, but I was interested to see that your Thomas (plumber) was working ?leading windows in places like York, Oldham, Huddersfield, Dewsbury - could he have been working at churches/cathedrals?

Clara, I'd never thought of that, I guess it is a possibility, much more exciting than my coal miners and my ag labs!!!

I'll keep you updated!!
