Great Horkesley
« on: Wednesday 02 August 06 21:14 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can anyone tell me where Union Place in Great Horkesley was situated?  My Grandmother lived there in 1901 but I can't locate it on any maps.  Was it connected with a Workhouse?

I hope someone can enlighten me.

Many thanks,

Karen

Hi Karen.J
Looking at the census pages for Great Horkesley , Union Place was not far from a building called Tile House and Old House.Just of the Causeway. Looking on a modern map there is a place called Tile House Road, and Old House Road. Both of these are off the  Causeway, so I would guess it was somewhere in that area. There is also a place called The Rookery and a pub called the Yew Tree Inn close by.
