Yorkshire Wills
« on: Thursday 03 August 06 17:17 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me to look for wills please?

I don't know they definitely exist but am wondering if it might be something I can look up and see if there are any.

I'm interested in the name KAYE from the Holmfirth area - is there anywhere I could look them up?

Thanks

~ Claire

Yorkshire Wills were with the Borthwick Institute at York, located at St.Anthony's Hall.  I think the Institute is now on the site of York University.
Wills can be in many places.  Not always where the person lived. Some in printed form. See local libraries.
Hope these comments may lead you to what you seek.

Dependant on the date, you could also try www.1837online.com
or www.a2a.org.uk may have some info, they provide details of records held at various record offices, and museums etc...just go to search, type in the name, and see what it brings up.

Kind Regards

Hi.

There is also a National index of wills 1858-1944. Before 1858 they were dealt with by the Ecclesiastical courts.

Check out http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Probate.html
