Two of you said he held the rank of lance corporal.
I think this one could be a possibility:

Medal card of Payne, Frederick W
Corps                            Regiment No         Rank
King's Royal Rifle Corps    8833          Lance Corporal
King's Royal Rifle Corps    8833           Corporal
Date    1914-1920

My only question is; would the uniform be different for the King's Royal Rifle Corps?

sam,lance corporal isnt a rank,its an appointment that can be given and taken away at anytime,it doesnt show up on the MIC most of the time,hes still a pte,the cap badge isnt the KRRC,i agree with the others,its the suffolks,mack

hes wearing a star ribbon,which must be the 1914-15 star,he has 4 blue overseas chevrons which means he was in F+F in 1915 and not before,the ribbon was issued 1918,the war and victory medals were issued in 1919,he isnt wearing those which dates the picture from between jan 1918 and no later than mid 1919,hes hiding his left hand,he may have been wounded,mack
