The Coombe family farmhouse was on the site now occupied by the Coombrae old peoples home.

Have you tried the Dunedin NZSG. They have an index of early Otago settlers. The settlement was founded 1848 so 1857 would qualify as early I would think. Especially since it was before the inundation that the gold discovery caused. Also the Wellington Public Library keep a Pioneers Roll of early arrivals into Wellington. My wife's other side who settled in the Hutt, Palmerston North and Turakina/Marton are all recorded on it.
Living in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Hello

I have just come across this while researching my ancestors in New Zealand.
Frank Evans Bailey was my great great Grandfather.
His brothers, all by the name Bailey, were:
William Lisson
James Alexander
Henry George
Walter Ambrose
Alfred Manning
Also two sisters Elizabeth Amelia, and Sarah.

I have the entire family tree for all these families from their parents James Alexander, Jane Manning (nee Lisson) to 1997. Which I am happy to share.
I would very much like to get in touch with as many members of the family in New Zealand as possible

Hi David

Thanks for making contact, cousin.  Whose boy are you (first name only, for security, please)?

If you are on Facebook, search for Bailey Family (of Somerset).  I moderate that so if you join the group, we can go from there.

Regards

Doug

My g g grandfather is Frank Evans Bailey, my g grandfather (whom I met as a child) is Frank Deane Bailey. His daughter Mimi Kathleen was my grandmother.

I don't know of any Baileys in Somerset. Can you tell me from which of sons or daughters of James Alexander and Jane Manning they are descended?
If they are related I'd like to be in touch.

I did a Facebook search for Bailey Family and found a couple of groups. Can you post the link here for the one you moderate. Thanks.
