Joseph MARDELL
« on: Sunday 06 August 06 23:03 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me where Rissden or Risdon was in Hertfordshire.

I have a Joseph on an 1881 and 1901 Census which might fit with my family but I cannot seem to find out where this place is that he was born in.

Kind regards
Hoppity  :)

Thanks Ricky, its a possible.

I am just wondering if it was a residence rather than a place??? ???

Thank you for looking for me.  If you find anything else, please let me know.  Any help is really appreciated.

Hi Ricky,

I am looking for a Joseph Mardell who parents are William Mardell and Sarah Anderson.  They lived in Ayot St. Peter, Herts until 1861.

His father, William Mardell died in 1861 in Ayot.  His mother, died in 1856 in Ayot.

Joseph was born c. 1828 in Ayot, bap 16.3.1828, (stated on the 1841/1851 Censuses) and had 5 brothers and two sisters.  One of his sister's and brother lived in Mile End in 1871 but I cannot find them living there in 1881.

I cannot find Joseph, Ann, or Charles after 1851 in Ayot.

Obviously there are various Joseph Mardells but after following them up, nothing appears to fit in with my family.

I have now picked up a Joseph on an 1881 Census who was born in Rissden and that's why I was trying to find out where this was as I have never heard of it before.

I do hope all this makes sense.  Please forgive me if it doesnt.  :)

Kind regards
Hoppity  :)

Hi,
I certainly found some Mardell burials in Braughing church yard recently. I didnt take much note of them at the time but would be prepared to have another look if you found any links with that area.

Hi Limney,

As far as know, I havent got any Mardells in that area at the present moment but who knows........   Thank you for taking the time to write.

Hi Ricky,

Unfortunately this Joseph does not belong to my family.  I found some papers which detailed his family and it wasnt mine.  His mother was Elizabeth Bulk and his father was William Mardell.

Thank you so very much for sending it though.  It could have been the right one..  If only!!

What kind people there are on this site.  :)

Thank you for trying to break down this brick wall.

Kind regards
Hoppity
