It's a shame that for the most part we can't.  All the stories you'd hear, it would be so fascinating.
The kind of social history that has been lost to the ages though is so unfortunate.  Really it's those little stories people can tell that make up history, not all the fancy kings and queens business.

The history of ordinary folk is the most interesting. I still wonder about my Margaret and the Estate she worked for before she became pregnant but I'lll never know
