« on: Tuesday 08 August 06 18:56 BST (UK) »
Have found a burial for

Lieutenant General John Grey 75 yrs

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions that might clarify what this might mean - if anything!!

Hi Knellie

I don't really understand your post. Is this related to your family. If so what do you want to find out?

Sorry

Yes it is a family link but I can't find much mor info. relating to John Grey other than the very simple but intriguing description of his status when buried.

I know he married in Nottingham (St Mary's) in 1808 (decribed as being Major of ye inspecting staff) and died in 1937.  The 1841 Cenus shows his widow as being independent and their daughters.  He left a Will but no clear detail I could make out as I assume he would have been retired by then.

My query was whether there might be a military connection i.e. some regimental information to follow or if he had 'purchased' his commission.  The other possibility being he was attached to the Militia at this time (between 1808 - 1820??).

Any advice appreciated.
